Sheffield and Online [Gemma Kothari]

Dr. Gemma Kothari

I am a clinical psychologist and an ACAT accredited CAT practitioner and supervisor.

I qualified as a psychologist in 2007 and currently work within an NHS mental health team. I have worked with people who experience depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders and relationship or interpersonal problems.  I routinely use CAT in my clinical work, both therapeutically and when supervising other clinicians, because of its relational and collaborative stance. I also draw upon ideas from compassion-focused therapy (CFT) acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I have a keen interest in understanding the therapeutic approaches that do or don’t work for different people, and reasons for effectiveness (or conversely, lack of change or progress) in psychological therapy.

Within my independent practice, I tend to see individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship problems and work issues.  I also see people who are having a difficult time for other reasons and need some support to better understand themselves and make changes in their life.  I have a particular interest in working with healthcare professionals, including people in training and experienced clinicians.  I often choose CAT as a therapeutic approach because it provides me with the opportunity to work collaboratively and in depth with a wide variety of people.

Please contact me if you would like more information and we can think together about whether CAT is the right approach for you and if we may be able to work together. I look forward to hearing from you.
