On the IRRAPT course from October 2007 to June 2009, it was identified at an early stage that there was a general lack of research experience amongst the majority of the experienced CAT practioners attending the course. The course leaders, Hilary Beard and Steve Potter invited course members to brainstorm possible topics for research projects. The topics were refined into five projects and course members formed themselves into five groups to plan the research, and on successive residential weeks a time slot was allocated to review progress. At the final residential week in June 2009, Steve Potter proposed that each group should submit a summary of their research for publication in Reformulation. The outcome of the research was constrained by factors of time and size of sample. The summaries of four projects that follow provide a brief description of the outcomes so far. The intention is that work will continue to be done beyond the end of the course to produce more significant results.
