Elia, I., 2003. Letters to the Editors: CAT Videos. Reformulation, Spring, p.4.
CAT CHAT II and CAT CHAT III are now available at £10 each. II is about CAT Practice and III is about CAT with Borderline patients. And for the few who did not buy a copy already, CAT CHAT I, entitled 'An Introduction to Cognitive Analytic Therapy through a dialogue between Dr Anthony Ryle and Mark Dunn', is also available. The increase in price over last year's phenomenal £5 offer is due to increased copying fees charged by the video facility. If you want any of the tapes, indicate which ones, send a cheque for the appropriate amount, along with your name and address to me at 80 Highsett, Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 1NZ. I send the money on to ACAT, less the post and packing costs.
All the tapes are referred to as CAT CHAT to spare my arm being permanently in a sling, due to writing the full titles on all tapes, invoices, and correspondence. All the tapes are in the relaxed 'chat' interview style, and all were self-videoed by Mark and Tony.
While you can learn a lot about CAT and about the interviewee and interviewer from these videos, they do not constitute lessons in CAT. If anyone is interested in discussing the planning, shooting, editing, and distribution of two 60 min, purpose-made videos, which set out more plainly the form (science) and content (art) of CAT, then please email me your thoughts (me14@cam.ac.uk). The new videos need not star Tony Ryle, as he would like a rest from the limelight, but they may contain short excerpts from CAT CHAT. Real or acted session segments or excerpts from taped workshops might also be included as illustrations within a lecture format.
The reason for limiting a prospective 'teaching set' of tapes to two is money. A day of shooting costs a minimum of £2000-3000. Therefore, any comments from Council on the feasibility/desirability of such a project, as an ACAT undertaking, would be most welcome. Of course such a project could be undertaken independently, without the copyright being reserved to ACAT, as with CAT CHAT. One independent producer in Cambridge has already said that he is hoping to make an introductory tape for medics about CBT and CAT. It might be better if we decided the content and kept the profits for ACAT, by doing it ourselves.
