It is 25 years since Cognitive Analytic Therapy was first named by Dr Anthony Ryle following the observation that: 'working with patients to find the best descriptions of what it was we were trying to change as part of outcome research, demonstrated to me the power of collaboratively arriving at such descriptions…..’ This early joint reformulation has remained the key feature of CAT, offering both the early creation of a non-authoritarian working relationship and yielding increasingly powerful tools of understanding and change.
In this 17th Annual ACAT Conference we will be focusing on ways of promoting that understanding and change, both by examining the development of what might be considered healthy minds, and by thinking about the aspects of CAT which help people develop a healthier mind for themselves.
The programme includes some internationally known speakers from other fields, some experts from within CAT and, most importantly, allows plenty of space for getting together in workshops and small groups in order to further develop our own healthy hearts and minds.
Keynote Speakers at the Conference:
Professor Paul Gilbert, Professor Vasu Reddy
Elizabeth McCormick, Annie Nehmad, Anna Jellema and Henrietta Batchelor
There are also workshops, the ACAT AGM, research posters and a Conference Dinner on Friday evening
We are also pleased to introduce this year "nurturing" groups including yoga and meditation
Call for research posters
Space will be allocated at the conference for poster presentations of research work in CAT. There will be a small prize for the best conference poster. Again, anything which focuses on the views of service users will be most welcome. If you have an idea for a poster presentation of your research or audit project then please contact Alison Jenaway (alison.jenaway@cpft.nhs.uk) or Jackie Baker (Jackie.Baker@nwmhp.nhs.uk).
